The Bermuda National Gallery – a people’s gallery

Located in a beautiful area, right in the center of Hamilton, the Bermuda National Gallery is where the entire Bermuda art collection can be found. Its doors were open for the first time in 1992 and now, after a little more than 20 years, it hopes to become a recognized name in the national art community. A remarkable number of artists were inspired by this cultural museum, by the exhibitions and the wide variety of educational programs held here.

The Bermuda National Gallery is open from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 4 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 2 pm. Unlike other cultural museums in Bermuda, here, the admission is free to all.

Diving and museum experience, all in one!

Although it sounds more like an underwater expedition, this is actually a cultural museum. Considering that we know very little about the ocean life, this institute has a very big job to do! Besides the great museum, that contains amazing shell collections, a 500 pound replica of a squid and a treasure room, this Bermuda cultural museum gives you the opportunity to experience diving, as well!

BUEI is opened every day of the week, from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The entrance is $12.50 for the normal ticket, $10 for seniors and $6 for children age from 7 to 17. Kids under 6 years old have a free entrance.

The history of beautiful Bermuda

The oldest stone building in Bermuda, which was built around the 1700’s, is also home of the Bermuda National Trust Museum. This cultural museum will excite any of the history enthusiasts out there, because it is held in the most appropriate building in Bermuda. This old building was also used by Major Norman Walker, a Confederate agent in the Civil War.

Besides the building itself, there are a lot of other permanent exhibits you can check out. Private tours and video presentations are also available. So, if visiting this cultural museum is something you find interesting, you might want to know that the tickets are very affordable at the price of $5 for adults, $2 for children between 6 and 18 years old and free for 5 and under.

A museum with unique features

A very special cultural museum, unlike any other you have seen before, is the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art! Not only do they have special tours, free of charge, available for students, but they have something that not many other museums have - it is called the “Renting a painting program”. This idea was first implemented when the museum found itself without a permanent home and the best thing the manager could do was to find a place for each painting, in a controlled climate. Because of this idea they also managed to make a little extra income.

The Masterworks Cultural Museum of Bermuda is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and on Sundays from 11 am to 4:30 pm.
